Responsible Solutions for Benton County’s Future

Benton Clean & Strong is a coalition of local residents, businesses, community organizations, and civic leaders committed to thoughtful, fact-based conversations about the future of solid waste management in Benton County.

We believe our community deserves reliable public services, responsible long-term planning, and meaningful opportunities to participate in decisions that will shape Benton County for generations to come.

Why This Matters

Every community depends on essential infrastructure — and waste management is one of the services we rarely think about until it's no longer there.

As Benton County plans for the future of Coffin Butte Landfill and the region's long-term solid waste needs, it's important that the conversation is guided by accurate information, careful planning, and local input.

This discussion is about more than a single facility. It's about ensuring our community has practical, affordable, and environmentally responsible solutions that continue to protect public health, support local governments and businesses, and serve future generations.

Public Hearing on Regional Waste Management Proposal

The Oregon Legislature’s Joint Task Force On Municipal Solid Waste in the Willamette Valley will hold a public hearing on Friday, September 11 at 1:00 PM to receive public feedback on a proposed regional waste management system. The Task Force has a handful of monthly meetings to go (on the 2nd Friday of each month) until it is expected to submit a report to interim legislative committees this December — before the 2027 Legislature convenes.

The proposal outlines a partnership to help fund waste management infrastructure in Marion, Polk, Yamhill, Linn, Benton, Lincoln, and Tillamook counties.

Members of the public are invited to watch the hearing, submit written comments, or provide verbal testimony.
